Community organization of Neighborhood Groups (NHGs) of women in Kerala has decided to backtrack from its gender-neutral oath in the wake of flak from various religious bodies including Samastha.
Kudumbashree Mission has given fresh directions to the district programme officers regarding the same.
As per the directive, the gender-neutral oath should be administrated to the Kudumbashree members. A new oath will be prepared and circulated among Kudumbashree members soon, say reports.
The oath was prepared for administering during its gender resource meetings. It was a part of a circular, issued by the district coordinator of the Kudumbashree Mission, the poverty eradication mission of the state government.
A part of the oath notes that a female member of a family should have equal property rights over her father’s property.
The oath triggered a row after Samastha leader Nasar Faizi Koodathayi alleged that some portion of the oath violated religious freedom and goes against the principles of the Holy Quran.
