Another incident that reveals the grave negligence of Kerala government has come to light with the revelation that the government has already asked the Election Commission not to hold by-elections in Thiruvananthapuram.
The letter was issued by the chief secretary before the commission announced the by-election. The commission announced the election on September 4. The letter was sent by the Chief Secretary on August 21.
The commission had rejected the chief secretary’s proposal and had started informal talks with the government and opposition parties to postpone the assembly and local elections. An all-party meeting was convened on Friday to reach a consensus on the issue.
The Chief Secretary pointed out in the letter that as the term of the Kerala Legislative Assembly is till May 21, 2021, the new members will have the opportunity to work for a short period. He also mentioned that keeping physical distance can be difficult during COVID-19.
