You cannot worship Lord Ram without worshipping Lord Hanuman. He is not just an ardent follower of Lord Ram but is the quintessence of wisdom, self-control, valour, righteousness, courage and strength. No other day can be as auspicious as his birthday to seek his blessings. In Tamil Nadu and other southern states, the Hanuman Jayanti also known as Anjaneyar Jayanti is celebrated on Margashirsha Amavasya (this year on December 18, 2017), a very rare, once-in-12-years cosmic configuration when the sun and the moon join Saturn in the sign Sagittarius, the 9th house of fortune. Thousands of devotees visit the Namakkal Anjaneyar Temple in Tamil Nadu to catch a glimpse of the idol.
“The conjoining of these powerful planets is a sign of divine intervention in the natural zodiac making it the most fortunate day to receive the divine blessings of Lord Hanuman and to accomplish the impossible in life. Moreover, as this celestial combination happens in the sign of fortune, it is believed that your actions to acquire material comforts can be fruitful with the blessings of your ancestors,” says Sri Kannan Dikshitar, the head priest, Sri Ram Mandir, Lodhi Road.
On December 18, the moon will be in moola star, ruled by Ketu, and the moon will share the sign with the sun and Saturn. The star moola represents destruction and breaks things apart. On this day, annihilate your pessimistic thoughts about money and sow the seeds of prosperity. “A strong intent to do so will be fruitful on the powerful day of this star. This is also a good day to uproot all negative thoughts and actions which are curtailing your progress. Since Lord Hanuman is an ardent devotee of Lord Ram, it is a very auspicious day and visiting a temple and participating in a havan will boost one’s health and well-being,” says priest Dikshitar.
What to do?
You can recite Hanuman Chalisa on this day and pray to the Lord for good health and strength. The Lord will destroy all that is evil, keeping you energised.
You can visit a Panchmukha Hanuman temple and offer prasad — laddoo, boondi and red sindoor (vermilion). You can even offer vastra to the Lord — preferably in orange or red colour and perform havan. Lord Hanuman’s five faces that of Hanuman, Hayagriva, Garuda, Varaha and Narasimha confer special blessings upon devotees.
Pray to the lord for everyone’s well-being with pure heart and soul. Havan should be conducted for the well-being of Hanuman devotees.
You can also visit and pray at any temple of Lord Ram which features him as Maryada Purushottam with Sita, Laxmana and Lord Hanuman.
