Kuyili, also known as Kuyil Pattama, was a brave warrior who fought alongside Velu Nachiyar in the 18th century against the British East India Company. Kuyili’s story is a testament to the courage and bravery of women in Indian history.

Kuyili was born in the early 18th century in the present-day Sivaganga district of Tamil Nadu. She was born into a family of warriors and grew up learning martial arts and other combat skills. Her father was a commander in the army of King Chanda Sahib, who was in a constant struggle with the British East India Company for control of South India.

When Kuyili was just a young girl, the British forces attacked and killed her father. This event had a profound impact on Kuyili, who vowed to avenge her father’s death and fight against the British.

Kuyili joined the army of Velu Nachiyar, the queen of Sivaganga, who was also fighting against the British. Velu Nachiyar was a fierce warrior queen who led a rebellion against the British in the late 18th century. Kuyili became a trusted lieutenant of Velu Nachiyar and fought alongside her in many battles.

One of the most famous incidents involving Kuyili occurred during the battle of Sivaganga in 1780. The British forces had surrounded the fort of Sivaganga, where Velu Nachiyar and her army were holed up. The British had cut off the water supply to the fort, and the situation was becoming desperate.

Kuyili came up with a plan to break the siege. She took a pot of oil and set it on fire. She then tied the pot to the end of a long stick and held it above her head. Kuyili then ran towards the British forces and threw the pot into a stockpile of ammunition, causing a massive explosion.

The explosion caught the British forces off guard, and Velu Nachiyar and her army were able to break out of the fort and escape. Kuyili’s bravery and quick thinking had saved the day.

Kuyili continued to fight alongside Velu Nachiyar in many battles against the British. She was a fierce warrior who was feared by the British soldiers. Kuyili became a symbol of courage and bravery for the people of Tamil Nadu.

Today, Kuyili is remembered as a hero and a role model for women. Her story is a reminder that women have always played an important role in the struggle for freedom and independence in India. Kuyili’s courage and bravery will always be an inspiration to future generations.
