After a lawyer filed a complaint against Salman Khan, Karan Johar, Ekta Kapoor, Sanjay Leela Bhansali and four other people, in connection with Sushant Singh Rajput’s death, there has been a flurry of activity in the Bollywood. A lot of bad blood has spilled with many fans of Sushant targeting ‘privileged star kids’ and Karan Johar. This had a huge psychological impact on actors, especially Karan Johar who is considered to be the ring-leader, according to some fans.
Following backlash, Johar unfollowed all Bollywood actors except Shah Rukh Khan, Amitabh and Akshay on Twitter. He will remain incommunicado for some time. A close friend of him who doesn’t want to be named told Indus Scrolls that Johar was not picking up his phone though tried multiple times. He, however, said such selective targeting of Johar won’t serve any purpose.
Sushant’s fans brutally trolled Johar and Alia Bhatt, who once said to have insulted the deceased. The hashtag #BanKaranJohar on Twitter was trending for two days. In the meanwhile, Kangana Ranaut’s statement had helped the pent up anger against the Bollywood star kids spill over. After Kangana uploaded a video on her Instagram account, it became debating point in mainstream media prime time discussions. Panellist after panellist blamed the Bollywood clique for the death of Sushant.
Sudhir Kumar Ojha, the lawyer who filed the case, said, “I have filed a case against eight people including Karan Johar, Sanjay Leela Bhansali, Salman Khan and Ekta Kapoor under Sections 306, 109, 504 & 506 of IPC in connection with actor Sushant Singh Rajput’s suicide case in a court in Muzaffarpur, Bihar. In the complaint, I have alleged that Sushant Singh Rajput was removed from around seven films and some of his films were not released. Such a situation was created which forced him to take the extreme step.”
Sushant’s death by suicide on June 14 has triggered a debate on nepotism in Bollywood. Many of his fans have been blaming a section of Bollywood for being partial towards outsiders. Some people argued that there was no nepotism as Akshay and Shah Rukh Khan were not star kids.
In fact, after the news of Sushant’s demise broke out, Johar had posted a short message on Instagram: “I blame myself for not being in touch with you for the past year….. I have felt at times like you may have needed people to share your life with…but somehow I never followed up on that feeling…will never make that mistake again…we live in very energetic and noisy but still very isolated times …some of us succumb to these silences and go within…we need to not just make relationships but also constantly nurture them….Sushants unfortunate demise has been a huge wake up call to me …to my level of compassion and to my ability to foster and protect my equations…..I hope this resonates with all of you as well….will miss your infectious smile and your bear hug ….”
But Sushant’s fans were unsparing and brutal. They said Johar was shedding crocodile tears after abetting suicide. They trolled Alia Bhatt who also stopped messaging ever since.
