Omankuttan, an RPF constable, did not wait for the wheelchair and stretcher to arrive when he learned that the condition of a female passenger, who had collapsed inside the Jan Shatabdi Express, had deteriorated.
Omanakuttan rushed to the railway station entrance carrying the lady in his arms and took her to the Thrissur District General Hospital in a police jeep. The doctors told him that they were able to save the passenger’s life as she was brought to the hospital at the right time.
Vadakara native Anitha (54) experienced discomfort during her train journey to Thrissur. The co-passengers informed the railway authorities after she became exhausted. This happened when the vehicle was approaching Thrissur station.
Railway department asked the RPF officers at Thrissur station to be ready to give medical attention to Anitha. When Omanakuttan entered the train, Anitha was unconscious. He instructed for a vehicle to be arranged as soon as possible without waiting for the ambulance.
Anitha had suffered a heart attack. The doctors stated that they would not have been able to save Anitha’s life if there was any delay in taking her to the hospital.
A police officer who was on duty at the station managed to click a picture of Omanakuttan while he was trying to save Anitha’s life. Omanakuttan has received appreciation from other officers after this picture went viral.
