A day after Congress leader Sonia Gandhi’s aide Tom Vadakkan joined BJP, about ten family members of senior Congress leader Shashi Tharoor joined the party at a function in Kochi on Friday. Tharoor’s aunt Sobhana and her son and other relatives said they have always supported the BJP and Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s policies. They received membership forms from BJP state president PS Sreedharan Pillai.
According to Padmaja of Sabarimala Karma Samiti, an RSS inspired organisation, the family of Tharoor has supported the Sabarimala movement. However, after the event, when they were assailed by the posse of mediapersons, they quietly left the venue.
According to BJP sources, a section of the media was trying to create a controversy by asking them “unnecessary questions which made them uncomfortable”. “The media in Kerala is highly hostile to the party and leave no opportunity to show BJP in poor light,” said a local leader of the party.
