The Lakshadweep police in the high court opposed the anticipatory bail application of Aisha Sultana in the sedition case. Police said in a report filed in the high court that anticipatory bail should not be granted. Earlier, the court had asked the central government and the Lakshadweep government to take a stand while considering the bail petition of Aisha. This was followed by the action of the Lakshadweep police.
“Aisha was asked to appear as part of a preliminary investigation. Lakshadweep police say Aisha’s fear of being arrested is irrelevant. The notice was issued under Rule 41 of the Criminal Procedure Code”, the police report says. According to the police, the sedition charges against Aisha will exist. Aisha’s petition seeking anticipatory bail will be heard on Thursday.
Director Aisha Sultana has been charged with sedition for using ‘bio-weapon’ remark against Lakshadweep administrator Praful Khoda Patel. Kavaratti police have registered a case against Aisha Sultana based on a complaint lodged by Lakshadweep BJP president C Abdul Khader Haji.
