The Sabarimala melsanthi is undergoing quarantine for Coronavirus. The move comes after three persons, who came in contact with the chief priest, tested positive for the virus.
The trio were among the few who tested positive for Covid-19 in the rapid test the other day. Following this, the chief priest and 7 others including priests were asked to remain in quarantine.
Although the Makaravilakku season is ongoing, the Medical Officers at Nilakkal and Sannidhanam had recommended the District Medical Officer (DMO) declaring the area including Sannidhanam into a containment zone.
The DMO has forwarded the recommendation to the state government, which will take a final decision.
The chief priest and others being in quarantine will not affect the poojas or other rituals at Sabarimala.
