The roof of the children’s ward at Kalpetta General Hospital in Wayanadu, Kerala collapsed today. The building was inaugurated two weeks ago. Eyewitnesses said that a major accident has been avoided as no one is injured though children and their parents were present in the building.
Following the incident, locals are protesting on the spot accusing the authorities of not ensuring quality while building. Occupants of the ward have been shifted to another building in the hospital premises.
Many of the government buildings in the state are found to be built without maintaining quality. While contractors blame political parties for demanding bribes, government authorities criticise builders for their negligence.
