In a strategic decision the Union Ministery today appointed senior IAS officer Rajiv Gauba as the new Cabinet Secretary after the superannuation of PK Sinha. He is appointed on special duty in the Prime Minister’s Office. He was one of the key implementers of the government’s decision to abrogate special status to Jammu and Kashmir under Article 370 and the reorganisation of the state into two Union territories.
Mr Gauba, a 1982 batch officer belonging to Jharkhand Cadre of Indian Administration Service, has held important assignments including Union Home Secretary, Secretary of Ministry of Urban Development and Chief Secretary of Jharkhand. He has also represented India at the International Monetary Fund.
An eminent bureaucrat, he is widely credited for flawless and smooth implementation of the decision. With an eye for details, he spearheaded the formulation and execution of these initiatives in MHA. Along with a small core team, he gave final shape to constitutional and legal aspects while working out administrative and security arrangements.
