Pro-Khalistani Float Depicting Indira Gandhi’s Murder Sparks Outrage in Canadian Parade

Pro-Khalistan elements in Canada have once again stirred controversy as a video emerged showing a float depicting the assassination of late Indian Prime Minister Indira Gandhi by her Sikh bodyguards in a parade held in the city of Brampton. The float, which was part of a 5 km-long procession, has sparked widespread condemnation and raised concerns about the unchecked activities of pro-Khalistani groups in Canada.

The video, believed to be from June 4, just days before the 39th anniversary of Operation Blue Star, showcases a float depicting the assassination of Indira Gandhi. Operation Blue Star was a military operation carried out by the Indian Army in 1984 to flush out militant Jarnail Singh Bhindranwale and other extremists from the Golden Temple complex in Amritsar. The operation ultimately led to the loss of lives and the subsequent assassination of Prime Minister Indira Gandhi by her Sikh bodyguards on October 31, 1984.

This recent incident has once again brought to the forefront India’s concerns regarding the activities of pro-Khalistani elements in Canada. The Indian government has repeatedly voiced its apprehensions about the unimpeded actions of these groups. In March, the External Affairs Ministry summoned the Canadian high commissioner to lodge a protest against the actions of separatist and extremist elements targeting India’s diplomatic missions and consulates in Canada. The protests escalated when the Punjab police launched a statewide manhunt for pro-Khalistani separatist preacher Amritpal Singh, resulting in an increase in demonstrations outside Indian missions. The leader of Waris Punjab De, Amritpal Singh, was eventually apprehended after a month-long chase.

The newly surfaced video has sparked outrage among social media users, who have expressed their astonishment at the brazenness with which pro-Khalistani elements are operating on foreign soil. The incident has once again ignited the debate surrounding the activities of these groups and their impact on Indo-Canadian relations.
