Challenging Kerala government’s decision to distribute alcohol upon doctors report, Indian Medical Association (HAI) today approached the Kerala High Court. In a letter sent to the high court, the IMA stated that people with alcohol need scientific treatment, not alcohol.
Earlier, various organisations including Kerala Government Medical Officers Association had criticised Kerala government’s move to provide alcohol on a doctor’s prescription for countering withdrawal symptoms. However, ignoring opposition from various quarters the government yesterday passed the order and instructed various departments to strictly follow the order.
“Scientific treatment should be given to those who have alcohol withdrawal symptoms. It can be treated at home or in hospitals with medicines. It is not scientifically acceptable to offer alcohol to such people instead,” ANI quoted IMA as saying.
Pointing out that the order is immoral, the IMA also called for the cancellation of the order.
