Kenya mourns the deaths of over 110 believers who died after following the words of Paul McKenzie, a preacher from the Good News International Church. The shocking discovery was made after police recovered 110 dead bodies from mass graves in the coastal town of Maya Malindi. According to the post-mortem report, some of the believers were strangled, beaten or suffocated to death.
It has been reported that McKenzie had encouraged his followers to go to the Shakahola forest and starve to death so that they could see Jesus before the end of the world. As a result, more than half of the dead were children, including five members of a family. The police have already rescued 34 people who were starving to death in the forest.
The Kenyan government has declared a curfew in the area and is conducting inspections in the 800 acres of forest. Chief Government Pathologist Johansen Odur stated that while starvation was the main cause of death, it was understood that some of the believers were killed. Out of the 40 bodies that underwent autopsies, four, including two children, showed signs of suffocation, and another child was hit on the head with a sharp object.
