The Special Cell of the Delhi Police, investigating the communal violence in northeast Delhi, has arrested two top functionaries of the radical Islamist outfit Popular Front of India (PFI).
According to media reports, the office-bearers of PFI, president Parvez and secretary Muhammad Ilyas, were on Thursday arrested for questioning. The two members of the PFI were reportedly taken into custody on charges of hatching a conspiracy to incite riots in northeast Delhi.
There were allegations that Shaheen Bagh protests were managed and funded by PFI. The police had earlier arrested PFI member Mohd Danish for hatching conspiracy to incite communal riots. Police had told the court that the accused was to be confronted with incriminating materials and other people in the case.
The police said they have strong evidence against Danish who had tried to incite communal violence. The police last week had arrested a Kashmiri couple for alleged links to a module of the Islamic State (IS). The couple linked to the Islamic State’s Khorasan module was held for allegedly instigating anti-CAA protests in Delhi. They were identified as Jahanazaib Sami (36) and Hina Bashir Beg (39).
