Trolls target LDF govt for ‘One house one widow’ scheme
Sreejith, a Dalit innocent man, was tortured to death in custody at Varappuzha in Ernakulum district, Kerala. His mother was not even allowed to give a glass of water to the thirsty man. Under public pressure, the government suspended a few policemen and transferred the main accused as in-charge of police training.
Now, the probe team is all set to finalize the chargesheet based on the legal advice it got from the home ministry. It will be submitted before the concerned authorities by June-end. Reports suggest that chargesheet will not carry the names of the Ernakulum Rural Superintendent of Police, AV George, the main accused, or any CPI(M) leaders.
The idea is to save the CPI(M) leaders from the case. There are reports that Alangad area secretary and Ernakulam district secretary of CPI(M) had spoken to SP AV George eight times and twice respectively before the arrest of Sreejith. When the news broke out that the interrogation of CPM Alangad area secretary was on, home ministry, read Pinarayi, reportedly instructed the police not to interrogate any more CPM leader. Meanwhile, CM Pinarayi told the legislative assembly that there was no evidence against the SP. So the accused seven police personnel will be the only ones to be charge-sheeted in the 2000 page document. Three of them are the members of the Rural Tiger Force (RPF) formed and controlled by the SP. The accused are on conditional bail now.
Noted political observer and CPI member Adv. Jayashankar said the home ministry is carrying out research to find out how to sabotage the case. Jayashankar thinks the hurried chargesheet is to scuttle the demand for a CBI probe.
Trolls have been targeting the LDF for launching, what they called, ‘One widow every house and a job for the widow’ scheme in Kerala, as after all custodial deaths government had given a job to the victim’s widow. In Sreejith’s case too, his widow got a government job and financial assistance. But there is no plan to give justice to the family.
