In a bid to keep senior BJP leader K. Surendran locked up, the Left Front government led by Pinarayi Vijayan foisted many unsolved fake cases on him. Surendran was arrested when he tried to go to Sabarimala. When he was given bail on November 22. “One of the cases relate to an unsolved murder case in Thiruvananthapuram in which no charges have been filed against any accused. Another case relates to beating up of an auto-driver by an unidentified person. Such random cases are imposed on Surendran which do not have any association with him,” said Advocate Suresh of BJP.
Ironically, in some cases, some other person has been chargesheeted. Some cases have been closed long time back, but with some other names as accused. Surendran said his party would fight this atrocity legally and politically. And, he sarcastically said, still he would not complain of chest pain and take shelter in any hospital. He was taking a dig at CPM Kannur district P. Jayarajan who keeps getting chest pain and gets admitted whenever he is arrested.
Surendran said a conspiracy has been hatched in the CM’s office. The chief minister is the kingpin of it. The idea is to prevent him from contesting the ensuing Manjeswaram by-election due to the death of the MLA PB Abdul Razak. In 2016 elections, Surendran had lost the election, with a slender margin of 89 votes, to the UDF’s Indian Union Muslim League (IUML) candidate PB Abdul Razak. CPM’s CH Kunjambu was pushed to the third position.
BJP president PS Sreeeedharan Pillai said GOK takes political vendetta against Surendran. His party would fight it politically and legally.
Post Script: The joke going around is that the Kerala government has charged Surendran for role in sinking of the Titanic.
