M Sivasankar, former principal secretary to Chief Minister, who is facing allegations of links with gold smuggling case, has submitted an anticipatory bail plea in the High Court here on Wednesday. He approached the High Court alleging that the Enforcement Directorate has been trying to arrest him.
Sivasankar filed his anticipatory bail plea in the court based on the report submitted by ED on the other day. In the bail plea, the IAS officer has pointed out that ED is trying to trap him in the case.
“In the report, ED has mentioned my WhatsApp chats with my chartered accountant as evidence in the case. But I have no involvement in the gold smuggling. When I was serving as principal secretary to CM, I had made contact with UAE consulate. Through this connection, I got acquainted with Swapna Suresh, UAE consulate secretary and we became friends. With this friendship, I attended functions of her relatives and we exchanged gifts too. Swapna sought my help to open a locker for keeping the money which she received as a tip from UAE administrator. I discussed this matter with the chartered accountant. But ED misinterpreted this fact and alleged that I have links with gold smuggling racket. Till date, ED has interrogated me for more than 30 hours in connection with the case,” explained Sivasankar in his bail plea.
Meanwhile, though Enforcement Directorate summoned Sivasankar for interrogation on Wednesday, he has not reported at the office yet.
Amidst all this, he has moved the anticipatory bail plea in the High Court.
