Union Food Minister Ram Vilas Paswan today clarified that no new ration cards will be issued under One Nation, One Ration Card scheme. Responding to supplementaries in the Rajya Sabha, Mr Paswan said, old cards will remain valid throughout the country to get subsidized foodgrains.
The Minister dismissed the reports doing the rounds on social media that new ration cards will be issued under the scheme as fake. He said, his Ministry has not engaged private vendors for the new card and the government may order a CBI investigation into the matter of issuance of new bogus ration cards.
The Minister also said the scheme will be implemented across the country from June this year. Currently, it is operational in 12 states including Madhaya Pradesh, Maharashtra, Haryana, Karnataka, Kerala, Rajasthan, Telangana, Tripura, Gujarat and Punjab.
