At the stroke of mid-night instead of sun-rise in morning when nation was declared independent, nation was slightly better placed in terms of infrastructure compared with South East Asian countries, laid down by British-occupiers to facilitate loot and plunder of the nation. The exploitative administration, rootless judiciary, quite a few industrialists and businessmen provided a minimal level to ‘begin with the beginning’ unlike others who had been languishing at Ground Zero.
There was no dearth of intelligent, experienced professionals like Vishveshvaraya, Sarabhai, Bhabha; experienced administrators like HM Patel, CP Ramaswami Iyer, GS Bajpai; WW-II veterans like Gens. KM Cariappa, Thimayya, Arjun Singh and a battery of outstanding politicians like KM Munshi, Sardar Patel, Ambedkar, Rajgopalachari, SP Mukherjee etc. at the stroke of mid-night when independence was declared. Only if the last Mughal had the talent and right intentions to mobilise and deploy them appropriately, they would have rendered enormous value addition to the nation. Unfortunately, Nehru had neither the right intention, nor wisdom nor gumption to harness the talent pool available to steer the nation. Any SE Asian country head would have pounced upon them and transformed the country in almost half the number of years that were consumed historically deploying their talent intelligently.
War Of Freedom was a fierce and sanguinary battle, fought by millions all over the nation. Credit of success of WOF unfortunately went to those who had done everything possible to retard its ongoing march to success and the last Mughal Nehru was an important member of that coterie hanging around Viceroys, indulging in fake propaganda, laying subterfuges providing leeway to British marauders. Sacrifices with blood and lives led by Netaji Bose to finality was completely obliterated from annals of history. As it happened to be a grassroot war participated and contributed by crores of natives, mood of the entire nation was intensely upbeat. Enthusiasm prevailing in the nation then could have been easily diverted towards reconstruction, resurgence and renaissance in all disciplines of activities and glory without much resistance. Alas ! that was not to be. Nehru being a liliputian, a very small man with a pea-sized brain, diverted entire zeal in dragging the nation towards ‘developing country with a begging bowl’. It was a gigantic wastage of resources, morale and opportunity in nations history presided over by the last Mughal Jawaharlal Nehru. He just did not know how to rise like a Phoenix from ashes in spite of all the support available to him for the asking and the unbridled supremacy that he enjoyed over Congress and his Government in absence of an effective opposition for 17 long years. Once in a millennium opportunity, it was just frittered away for a song and being a hardened Tamasika-Bhogi, Nehru condemned Bharata to remain a III-World country.
The last Mughal Nehru left the country in shambles. He left the country with the longest disputed border in the world, a demoralised army starving for even rations what to speak of latest arms and ammunition, bereft of prestige in international diplomacy, begging for foodgrains all over the world, too bureaucratic in Babudom, one of lowest literacy in the world, absence of effective opposition, pliable and worthless media, Parliament loaded with supine yes-men, hangers on and so on. Scenario was so pathetic that ‘I don’t know what sin I committed in my previous life that I had to be born in this country’ used to be a very common refrain. Jokes have been flying thick and fast even Russian Communists were compelled to believe in existence of a Supreme Power that created Nehrus India !! History of the nation shall never forgive the last Mughal for being a ‘tall leader of wasted opportunities’ in a nation gifted with tremendous potential to lead the world.
