The NIA arrested two terrorists in Thiruvananthapuram in a highly secretive operation. It is learned that each movement to take the duo from Riyadh was kept confidential.
NIA interrogated the terrorists who landed around 6.15 pm for three hours at the airport itself. The two were under the radar of RAW after Riyadh authorities issued a look-out notice against them.
Officials from Kochi also arrived at Thiruvananthapuram airport to arrest the duo. Over 25 NIA and RAW officials reached the airport after taking the duo in custody.
Neither the Kerala Police nor the intelligence department was informed about the arrest. Kerala Police reached the airport after NIA and Raw arrested the terrorists. Around 9.30 pm, the terrorists were taken outside the airport.
Shuhaib, one among the arrested, is the 32nd accused in the 2008 Bengaluru blast case. One person was killed and 30 were injured in the blast.
The trial in the case is in the last phase at Bengaluru special court. PDP chairman Abdul Nasar Madani is booked as the 31st accused in the case. Four accused in the case were killed in the encounter with the army in Kashmir. Among the 32 accused in the case, 26 are Keralites. 7 accused are still absconding.
According to reports, Shuhaib, a native of Kannur is involved in more than 8 blast cases. It is suspected that he is involved in the Kozhikode blast case.
The other person is Mohammed Gul Nawaz, from Uttar Pradesh and is allegedly involved in a Delhi bomb blast case.
According to the NIA, Shuhaib will be taken to Bengaluru, while Nawaz would be taken to Delhi.
