US President Donald Trump will arrive in Ahmedabad today on a two-day visit to India. He will be accompanied by his wife Melania, daughter Ivanka, son-in-law Jared Kushner and top brass of his administration. In Ahmedabad, he will visit Sabarmati Ashram and take part in a roadshow with Prime Minister Narendra Modi. The two leaders will jointly address over one lakh people at the Namaste Trump event at Motera cricket stadium. A cultural extravaganza will be organised at the stadium during the Namaste Trump event. Bollywood singers Kailash Kher and Parthiv Gohil, and Gujarati folk singers like Kirtidan Gadhvi, Gita Rabari, Purushottam Upadhyay and Sairam Dave will perform at the stadium.
After his arrival at the Ahmedabad airport, the US president along with Mr Modi will participate in roadshows on his way from the airport to Sabarmati Ashram and from there to the newly-built Motera stadium. Dance groups and singers from different parts of the country will perform on stages that are dotting the22-km route of the roadshow. Huge billboards of the two leaders and replicas of historic places in Gujarat have also been placed along the roads where people will greet the two leaders.
Over 10,000 Gujarat police personnel, officials of US Secret Service and national Security Guards (NSG) and Special Protection Group (SPG) have been deployed for the high profile visit. Prime Minister Modi will accompany MrTrump to the Sabarmati Ashram, which was home to Mahatma Gandhi from 1917-1930during India’s freedom struggle.
After the Namaste Trump event in Ahmedabad, Mr Trump and his entourage will fly to Agra to visit Taj Mahal. Uttar Pradesh Governor Anandiben Patel and chief minister Yogi Adityanath will welcome the US president on his arrival at the Kheria airport. Mr Trump and his family will spend about an hour at the TajMahal complex. In the evening, the US President will leave for Delhi for the main leg of the visit during which restricted and delegation-level talks between Mr Trump and Mr Modi will be held at Hyderabad House tomorrow.
Tomorrow morning, MrTrump and the First Lady will be accorded a ceremonial welcome at the forecourt of the Rashtrapati Bhavan. From there, they will go to Rajghat to pay homage at the Samadhi of Mahatma Gandhi. It will be followed by talks between Mr Trumpand Mr Modi at Hyderabad House. Prime Minister Modi will host a lunch for theUS president following the talks. In the evening, Mr Trump will meet PresidentRam Nath Kovind at the Rashtrapati Bhavan. A banquet will be hosted by MrKovind. President Trump will depart from India later that evening.
In their talks, Mr Trump and Prime Minister Modi are likely to focus on a wide variety of bilateral and regional issues including trade and investment, defence and security, counter-terrorism, energy security and situation in the Indo-Pacific. Mr Trump is accompanied by a high-powered delegation comprisingTreasury Secretary Steven Mnuchin, Commerce Secretary Wilbur Ross, NationalSecurity Advisor Robert O’Brien and Energy Secretary Dan Brouillette.
