Even as the Left-Congress campaign against the BJP as an anti-minority party gets shriller in Kerala, Taha Thangal, the grandson of one of the founders of Indian Union Muslim League, Sayyed Bafaki Thanal, has held parleys with state BJP leaders where he expressed his desire to join the saffron party.
Thangal told reporters that there was nothing wrong in him joining the BJP and he would explore ways to help the minorities while working in the party.
According to Thangal, the BJP has never asked Muslim not to visit mosques or offer prayers. He said he would continue to observe fast during Ramzan religiously and his family completely supports his decision to join the BJP.
Recently, former Congress legislator AP Abdullakutty joined the BJP after meeting Prime Minister Narendra Modi and party president and Union Home Minister Amit Shah.
The state BJP leaders vouch that a large number of minorities are getting attracted to BJP and taking its membership.
Meanwhile, almost all the rebel Congress lawmakers who joined the BJP recently are Catholics.
