“How much money will I get if I become a recruitment agent (for ISIS)?” This is the question Shafin Jahan has asked Mansi Buraaq, who was recently arrested by the National Investigation Agency for his terror links, through a Facebook interaction. To this, Buraaq says, “In rupees? It (commission) will be paid in dollars …yes in dollars.”
Although Shafin Jahan maintains that the conversation with the terror recruiter Buraaq was in pure jest, the police investigation has proved that he has deep links with extremist and terrorist organisations. According to the police, Jahan is active in the Social Democratic Party of India (SDPI), the political wing of the Popular Front of India, an Islamist extremist outfit. The police had registered three criminal cases against him. In other “love jihad’ cases too, the role of SDPI-Popular Front activists have come to the light.
The police say he had obtained passport through fraudulent means. The police had registered a case against him in this connection. The report says in 2011 he obtained a passport J 3947001 and that in 2014 he obtained another passport L 7759080 on tatkal provisions. The latter passport was obtained concealing the cases against him.
The Kerala High Court had declared the marriage between Jahan and Hadiya as it believed the marriage was hurriedly done to hoodwink the court. Not only parents of the girl, even Jahan’s advocate was not told about the wedding carried out during the trial period. The court also ruled that an important decision like marriage in a woman’s life can only be taken with the active involvement of her parents.
Jahan’s father Rajan had converted to Islam to marry a Muslim woman.
