A photograph of Prime Minister Narendra Modi clad in South Indian attire ‘mundu’, posted from Port Blair, Anadamans, on his Twitter handle on Saturday evening has gone viral on social media.
Modi shared the picture on his official Instagram account with a caption, “A morning in scenic Port Blair…an early sunrise and traditional attire. Thinking about the brave heroes of our freedom struggle, who gave their lives for our freedom.”
Some Mallu Netizens compared the “new look” to Mohanlal’s look in the Malayalam blockbuster film Narasimham. PM Modi’s new sartorial choice – milk white mundu with slender blue borderline – fits well on him. Once in a TV programme, when a woman in the audience asked him about his superior sartorial choices, he said he doesn’t invest much of energy on that. But by god’s grace, dresses he chose to wear fit well on him, he replied.
PM Modi is expected to visit Pathanamthitta district where Sabarimala is situated in the next month. The photograph is expected to be used by BJP workers to show Modi’s love for Kerala. A few years ago, Modi posted a video wishing Malayalees Onam in Malayalam had gone viral. Evers since BJP workers post the video every year on the eve of Onam.
Last year, attacking Kerala Chief Minister Pinarayi Vijayan, CPI, second largest partner in the LDF, has called him ‘Modi in Mundu’ in an apparent reference to Prime Minister Modi’s alleged ‘autocratic’ style of functioning. Many CPM insiders say that they take this ‘allegation’ as a badge of honour.
