Amidst stringent criticism and threats from Islamists and leftists, #Meppadiyan starred by Unni Mukundan is leading in theatres across Kerala. The movie is continuing in theatres for the second week inviting the crowd even amidst the covid crisis. Collection records indicate that the film recovered its spending in the third day itself. More than anything, it has earned affable Unni Mukundan a place in the minds of audience, especially women. Vishnu Mohan, the debutant director, has proved that he is here to stay for long. The dexterity with which he directed had received much acclaim from critics and audience.
“It is doing very well in theatres. We have had some houseful shows across the state, despite cancelling many releases due to ongoing public health concerns. Most of our well-wishers advised us not to release the movie during this time as well,” says Mukundan. He adds, “However, families have chosen to watch Meppadiyan, and the reviews have been mostly splendid.”
Directed and written by first-timer Vishnu Mohan, Mukundan says with Meppadiyan he has taken a respite from the action-hero, macho-posturing roles he has earned a name for in the Malayalam film industry.
The film also features Aju Varghese, Anju Kurian, Kottayam Ramesh, Saiju Kurup, Nisha Sarang, and Kalabhavan Shajohn. Mukundan plays the role of a mechanic, Jayakrishnan, who gets into a seemingly ‘great land deal’; however, he ends up with life-challenging situations in making the deal happen.
