Mamta’s appeasement politics taking toll on Hindus; tension in Asansol

Bengal Chief Minister Mamta Banerjee’s appeasement politics is wreaking havoc in the state, with Muslim goons are let loose and given safe havens in a bid to polarize the electorate. On Ram Navami day, Muslim gangs in tempos and other vehicles came out in large numbers in Asansol’s Raniganj with sharp weapons and attacked Hindus. Many were severely injured and battling for their lives in hospitals. The police stood as silent spectators as the goons had the blessings of ruling party leaders.

According to reports, tension continues to build in certain areas. Hindu victims claimed that the police remained mute spectators and gave Muslims a free hand to indulge in arson and violence.

The gangs attacked the police too and Deputy Commissioner of Police is reported to have sustained injuries in his forearm after a bomb hit him.

The trouble started when a group of Muslims started pelting stones at a Ram Navami procession while it was passing in front of a mosque. Initially, they started sloganeering. When the police prevented them, they started pelting stones. Soon after, the mob also hurled crude bombs in which a senior police officer was injured. He was rushed to a hospital in Asansol. Later, he was shifted to a private hospital in Durgapur.

On the other hand, one person was killed and five police personnel were injured during a clash between two groups over a Ram Navami procession in Purulia in West Bengal. The incident took place on Sunday.
