In Maharashtra, Chief Minister Uddhav Thackeray and eight other candidates were today declared elected unopposed to the State Legislative Council. The announcement was made by the State Election Commission after the deadline for withdrawal of nominations ended this afternoon.
Last year, Aditya Thackeray had become the first person from the Thackeray family to contest polls. He was elected to the State Assembly from Worli seat. In a little less than a year, his father too is set to make his debut as a legislator in the Upper House. Mr. Uddhav Thackeray was sworn-in as Maharashtra Chief Minister in November last year, making it mandatory for him to get elected to either of the houses before 27th May 2020.
Meanwhile, eight others who have been elected inlcude Council Deputy Chairperson Dr. Neelam Gorhe, BJP candidates, Ranjitsinh Mohite Patil, Gopichand Padalkar, Praveen Datke and Ramesh Karad; NCP’s Shashikant Shinde and Amol Mitkari and Rajesh Rathod of Congress.
While the official notification of the election result will be issued tomorrow, the swearing-in ceremony of all the nine newly elected members is expected to be held on Monday.
