Madras HC restrains universities from declaring results without conducting arrear exams

The Madras High Court yesterday granted interim stay against the clearing of arrear papers of college students by two universities in Tamil Nadu, without holding the tests on the grounds of Covid-19 restrictions.

The court while hearing the cases filed against the results by the universities asked how such a decision could be taken in contravention of the UGC norms. The court asked why tests were not held either online or offline. The Tamil Nadu Government and the universities concerned have been asked to submit their reply to the petitions.

Meanwhile, the hearing yesterday is reported to have been live-streamed by some miscreants. The court warned of initiating contempt proceedings against those responsible for it and decided to hold future hearings on the case in person.
