Amidst the continuing protests, the Kerala government has said that it is ready to discuss the letter controversy in the municipal council. In this regard, a meeting has been called by Minister MB Rajesh. The minister has written a letter to the district presidents of all major political parties that are protesting.
The letters that were sent by Mayor Arya Rajendran asking for a list to appoint party workers and supporters to 295 temporary posts in the municipality and DR Anil asking for a party list to appoint temporary staff in the SAT hospital have leaked out. They sent the letters to CPM Thiruvananthapuram District Secretary Anavoor Nagappan. Meanwhile, the mayor is repeating that the letter in her name is fake. She expressed her opinion only when she appeared before the ombudsman on the last day.
The government’s new intervention has come after a month of protests following the letter controversy. The controversy started when the letter sent on the mayor’s official letterhead was leaked through the WhatsApp groups of the party leaders.
