Ladakh Member of Parliament Jamyang Tsering Namgyal has opened the 490 km long Leh – Manali National Highway for traffic at Sarchu in Leh district. The highway, which also has world third highest motorable road at Tanglang La, connects Ladakh with rest of the country.
AIR correspondent reports, after opening of Leh-Manali national highway now Ladakh again connected with the rest of the world on two access Roads for the summer.
The Border Roads Organisation (BRO) has cleared snow to make the Srinagar- Leh and Leh- Manali High Ways ready for traffic a month in advance than the previous year.
Two wings of Border Roads Organization, Project Himank and Project Deepak have worked at the most challenging stretches for the snow clearing teams at Baralacha pass at over 16 thousand feet and Tanglang La Pass at 17 and half thousand feet height on Leh- Manali High Way.
These stretches are prone to avalanches and strong bone-chilling winds. However, despite Covid-19 restrictions in place, with meticulous planning, the BRO has cleared snow accumulation in these sectors recorded over 35 feet at places and has an average height of 15 feet.
With the opening of Leh -Manali Highway, now Ladakh an access road to dodge Covid-19 red zone in Srinagar for supply of essential commodities.
On the first day, nine Oil Tankers have arrived from Manali to Ladakh region. Project Deepak Chief Engineer Brigadier MS Baghi was also present on the occasion.
