CPM leader MV Govindan said that A Vijayaraghavan was temporarily appointed as CPM general secretary only because Kodiyeri Balakrishnan requested long leave owing to his treatment.

“Kodiyeri Balakrishnan said in the state secretariat meeting that he required continuous treatment and wanted to take leave. The party secretariat approved this. Vijayaraghavan was given the temporary charge as Kodiyeri Balakrishnan is not in a position to carry out his responsibilities as the party secretary,” MV Govindan said.

When asked how long Kodiyeri Balakrishnan will be on leave, MV Govindan said that it would depend on the treatment.

He also added that Kodiyeri has already talked about matters relating to his son and that it will not affect the party in any way.
