The loss of Kochi Metro has increased by Rs. 23 crores compared to the previous year. In 2020-21, the metro marked a loss of Rs 334.41 crores, according to the annual report. It was Rs 310.82 crores in 2019-20
However, there is an increase in the income of the metro rail. In 2020-21, it generated Rs 167.46 crores compared to Rs 134.95 crores in 2019-20.
Construction of Aluva-Pettah stretch cost Rs 6218.14 crores. Pettah-SN Junction stretch is expected to cost Rs 710.93 crores. This will be completed by March 2022. SN Junction-Thripunithura line is expected to be completed by December 2022 which will cost Rs 448.33 crores.
The Covid-19 pandemic affected the functioning of the metro. The income from tickets is Rs. 12.90 crores.
The second phase of the metro from Kaloor Stadium to Kakkanad awaits the approval of the Union Cabinet. It will cost Rs 1957.05 crores. The Water Metro is expected to run from December this year.
