Located in Tulmulla village, the Ganderbal district of the central Kashmir, a marble shrine is dedicated to Goddess Kheer Bhawani, located in the middle of a magical spring that constantly changes the colour of the water. It has been observed that when there is an imminent disaster, the spring water becomes black or gloomy. Numerous influential individuals have seen the spring colour, including Walter Lawrence in 1886 (then-British commissioner of that location), Swami Vivekanand, and Abul Fazal. Mother Kheer Bhawani appeared to Ravana due to his devotion but later begged that Lord Hanuman remove her to Satisar (Kashmir) due to his terrible activities. Kheer Bhawani is also known as Mahargya, and Kashmiri Pandits universally worship her.
This temple has been attacked repeatedly; those opposed to Hinduism have attempted to demolish it numerous times. Stone pelting, blasphemy, and mob violence are part of a larger scheme to rid the Kashmir Valley of Hindus. Tullamulla is a settlement located in central Kashmir. The name is derived from the Sanskrit term “Atulya Mulya,” which translates as “great worth.” This location is significant due to the divine presence of Goddess Kheer Bhawani. The temple of Goddess Kheer Bhawani is located in a heptagonal-shaped mystic water spring (pool). The mysterious water spring is significant in and of itself, changing colour on occasion. Also known as Maharagya or Ragya Devi, Goddess Kheer Bhawani is none other than Durga Bhagwati.
Ragniya is a Sattavie manifestation of Mother Goddess, i.e. the manifestation of serenity and happiness. She is the mother of Kashmiri Pandits and is responsible for their spiritual strength. Not only Kashmiri Pandits but also many pilgrims from many countries come to receive divine blessings. She is the presiding deity for a large number of Kashmiri Pandits. Each year, on the eighth day of the full moon in May/June, followers of Goddess Kheer Bhawani fast and congregate around the spring, where the Goddess changes the colour of the spring’s water for the enjoyment of her devotees. Kashmir’s Hindus universally revere Kheer Bhawani. This is a highly sacred spot for a Kashmiri Pandit or any Hindu; it carries enormous devotional sentiments and is constantly guarded by armed forces. Kheer Bhawani is worshipped as the mother goddess. However, we must acknowledge the grim reality that this location has been under attack since the uprising began. Numerous local mob violence has occurred, including stone-pelting on the shrine. Iextremists have banded together several times to demolish this house of worship for Kashmiri Pandits. The conspiracy’s stated objective is to eradicate the Hindu population and their beliefs. Can you fathom how upsetting it must be for a youngster to be separated from his mother?
Similarly, Kashmiri Hindus felt the same way throughout the exodus. Due to the relentless terror directed at them, nearly all have fled. There has been no media coverage and sympathy from the so-called intellectuals of society, such as Bollywood, civic societies, and free thinkers; instead, they have attempted to deafen the nation’s ears to this atrocity of the Kashmiri Pandit exodus. Although this temple is well-known, it is unlikely that its splendour will remain unmatched for future generations.
