Police arrested a youth for abducting a 19-year-old girl he met on social media, taking her to Kunnamkulam and raping her.
Keezhyapoor police inspector C. T. Sanjay arrested Latheef Seydumuhammad (39) of Nagalassery in Pattambi. Latheef met the second year Degree student on ShareChat. Latheef had ShareChat and Facebook IDs in which his name was ‘Sulthan’ and made him appear as a rich man. Latheef managed to convince the teen that he was a 26-year-old businessman and that he was in love with her.
On July 6, Latheef came to the teen’s area on a two wheeler. Latheef took her on the bike saying they would go to Mallappally. However, he took her to Kottayam and then to Kunnamkulam. During the journey, Latheef took the girl’s mobile phone and destroyed the sim card.
The accused, who had contacted the teen over phone until then, was wearing a helmet. The teen saw Latheef’s face for the first time only after reaching a rented house in Kunnamkulam. In order to convince the teen’s family members, Latheef threatened her and made her call home and to the Keezhyapoor police station to tell that she would return the next day.
Whenever, Latheef stepped out of the rented house, Latheef would lock the doors from outside. The teen managed to send a message to her uncle stating that she has been abducted and wanted to be saved.
