Speaker P Sreeramakrishnan has reacted to the allegations levelled against him relating to the gold smuggling case.
In an official press statement, Sreeramakrishnan said that he never travelled with the accused in the smuggling case or met with them abroad.
“There has been no situation of travelling with the accused in the gold smuggling case or meeting them outside the country. The allegations are totally false. It was scripted somewhere and others seem to repeat it. A constitutional post being dragged to political allegations and its retaliations is wrong,” he said.
It was alleged that the high-profile person involved in the gold smuggling case was Sreeramakrishnan. Following this he has furnished a response.
All official trips are undertaken as per guidelines and government money was used only for official travel expenses, he added.
“For the past few days, the Speaker and his office were dragged into the controversy relating to the gold smuggling case. I would like to clarify that the allegations are untrue. I have explained all details relating to the foreign trips earlier. Most of them were unavoidable due to repeated invitations from organizations abroad. As my siblings are also abroad, some of the trips were unofficial,” Sreeramakrishnan said in the statement.
There have been efforts to create a smoke cover over the foreign trips. All trips were informed to the embassy. I have nothing to hide. All details were disclosed earlier. If anyone wishes to know more about it, details are available in my office, he further stated and requested the public to brush off the false allegations.
