Opposition and BJP have alleged that the fire at the secretariat was part of a move to sabotage the gold smuggling case. The opposition alleged that the fire was carried out with the knowledge of the Chief Minister and demanded a thorough investigation.
Several files which are believed to be crucial in the ongoing NIA investigation were destroyed in a fire at the building where the Public Administration Department is located. Opposition alleged that this is a move to cover up all corruption.
Earlier, the government has said that the visuals in the CCTV cameras were destroyed in lightening. Opposition leader Ramesh Chennithala said that the present incident is also a process to destroy evidence as per the instructions of the Chief Minister.
The office of the Chief Protocol Officer is the main focus of the NIA investigation. There is a fire in that office now. It is very clear that this is a conspiracy. Chennithala added that this was a humiliating incident, Ramesh Chennithala said.
He also strongly condemned the Chief Minister’s attempt to protect the accused in the gold smuggling case.
BJP state president K Surendran also alleged that the fire was purposefully set by the government and was a big conspiracy. The office was closed yesterday after reporting a COVID case. It is unbelievable that the fire happened during this time. K Surendran also demanded that the central agencies take up the matter seriously.
