While severe rain continues in Kerala, a high-level meeting was convened in the state under the chairmanship of the Chief Secretary as per the instructions of the Chief Minister. The meeting was attended by heads of various departments, police, fire force, KSEB chairman, meteorological and disaster management experts and various district collectors.
Necessary instructions were given to the police and fire force. There are directions to deploy civil defence officers if required. The public can call the toll free number 1077, 24 hours a day. The control rooms, which are open day and night, will also be opened on district and taluk basis. A special control room will be set up under the leadership of the Local Self Government Department.
A special control room has been set up at the Corporation to monitor the floods in Kochi city. Directions have been given to ensure that the big pumps in the Alappuzha district are operational. It was decided to take necessary steps to ensure the safety of the Sabarimala pilgrims.
People are advised not to go down into rivers and other bodies of water in the coming days as the flow is likely to be strong. Weather warnings should be carefully monitored and the instructions of the authorities should be followed. People should be prepared to move to camps when needed. Electric lines are likely to break in wind and rain. Inform KSEB control room number 1912 immediately if any such issues are noticed. Those who go out early in the morning should be wary about snapped power lines that come in contact with water bodies.
Night trips and water bodies should be avoided. Those traveling to hilly areas should avoid all non-essential trips. Tourists should avoid night trips and should try to stay where they are.
