Kerala BJP president K Surendran has decided to approach High Court, demanding to withdraw the controversial Kerala Police Act Amendment, said reports. Meanwhile, stringent criticisms are pouring in from various quarters on the amendment.
The chief minister had earlier came forward with an explanation on the amendment to the Police Act implemented by the state government. The chief minister’s criticism comes amid a controversy over the amendment. Along with the opposition and the BJP there were some from outside the state, who showered criticisms against the amendment.
The main criticism was that the amendment to the Police Act was meant to confine the media in the name of preventing cyber-abuse. The provision of the amendment that the police could easily file a case against any media news regardless of who lodged the complaint, was of great concern. However, the amendment will not in any way be used against freedom of speech or impartial media activity. The chief minister also claimed there is no basis for other concerns.
