Police officials have arrested a Muslim bridegroom for allegedly hurting the religious sentiments of Hindus by dressing up as Daiva Koragajja during a wedding ceremony, reports Udayavani News.
The accused groom, Umarul Bashith was arrested by airport officials of Nadumban Cheri at Kochi in Kerala.
A case regarding the incident was registered based on a complaint from Chethan from Vitla Padnuru village of Bantwal taluk.
Bashith, hailing from Uppala near Manjeshwar, who was attending the wedding ceremony at the residence of Aziz at Salethur in Kolnadu village of Bantwal taluk, was wearing the attire of Koragajja and danced along with his friends in a way that defamed the demigod, the complaint said.
The youth also circulated video clippings of the dance on social media platforms which later went viral.
The police registered the case for offences punishable under IPC Sections 153 (A) (promoting enmity between different groups) and 295 (defiling a place of worship with intent to insult a religion).
The police had earlier arrested The arrested are Ahmed Mujitabu (28) and Moideen Munish (19) in connection with case.
Bashith had applied for anticipatory bail in the fourth additional sessions court of Mangaluru. But, the court had quashed his petition.
