Kerala recorded 22,414 new Covid cases on Wednesday, informed the health department through a press release. With 108 new fatalities, the death toll mounted to 17,211. The test positivity rate was recorded at 11.37 percent.
The district-wise statistics of positive cases: Malappuram-3691, Thrissur-2912, Ernakulam-2663, Kozhikode-2502, Palakkad -1928, Kollam-1527, Kannur-1299, Kottayam-1208, Thiruvananthapuram- 1155, Kasaragod-934, Alappuzha-875, Wayanad-696, Pathanamthitta-657 and Idukki-367.
A total of 1,97,092 samples were tested in the last 24 hours. In total, 2,79,12,151 samples including routine sample, sentinel sample, CBNAAT, Truenat, POCT, PCR, RTLAMP, antigen were sent for the tests.
114 of the new COVID patients were returned from outside the state. 21,378 people contracted the virus through contact. The infection source of 835 patients remains unidentified.

87 health workers also tested positive for Covid-19. Among them, 19 were from Kannur, 15 from Palakkad, 10 from Pathanamthittam 9 from Kasaragod, 7 from Ernakulam, 6 each from Kollam and Kozhikode, 5 from Thrissur, 4 from Kottayam and 2 each from Thiruvananthapuram, Malappuram and Wayanad.
Meanwhile, 19,478 recoveries were also reported in the state.

With this, the number of active cases touched 1,76,048 in the state. 32,77,788 people were recovered from the disease so far.
4,74,056 people are currently under observation in the state. Out of this, 4,44,009 people are under home/institutional quarantine and 30,047 people are in hospitals. 2,836 people were taken to hospitals on Wednesday.
There are 62 local bodies with TPR below 5 percent; 294 local bodies with TPR between 5-10 percent, 355 local bodies with TPR between 10-15 percent and 323 local bodies with TPR above 15 percent.
