A python was killed during the construction of National Highway service road at Kuthiran here on Sunday. Forest officials took the JCB driver under custody over charges of injuring the python with the JCB. West Bengal native Kaji Nazrul Islam (21) was held for the crime.
The incident took place when the construction of service road was under progress on the stretch of Vazhukumbara to Kuthiran tunnel on the National Highway.
Completion of service road works is the only solution to solve the traffic block in this region. In view of this, the work was carried out here.
The snake was found between the stones which was piled up here for work. The python was injured while removing the stones.
Following this, the forest officials booked the driver and seized the JCB under wildlife protection act. Later, the python succumbed to injuries.
The construction of the road work was also interrupted after the JCB driver was arrested. It is the fourth case charged against a worker involved in the NH works.
The construction company in charge of the work complained that the workers are reluctant to cooperate with the work due to continuous cases. Hence, the company temporarily stopped the work.
Only 100 metre area was levelled due to the issue here on Sunday.
