As per reports, the NIA team probing the controversial Kerala gold smuggling case, has obtained permission to visit Dubai for further probe into the case. A two-member team, including an official in SP rank, will head to Dubai.
Recently, NIA team had decided to extend the probe into the case to Dubai. Following this, the probe team sought permission from the union home ministry to conduct the investigation in Dubai.
A two-member team of NIA will head to Dubai within two days. With the Dubai trip, NIA aims to question Faisal Fareed, one of the key accused in the case. The team will seek help from Dubai police to take another accused Rebinson into custody for interrogation.
Earlier, the union ministry has cancelled the passport of Faisal Fareed. According to reports, Faisal Fareed is in Dubai police custody. But neither the Dubai Police nor the UAE government has confirmed that Faisal is in their custody.
UAE considers gold smuggling as a federal crime. Hence, there are chances to hand over Faisal to Abu Dhabi police.
It is learned that along with interrogating Faisal Fareed, NIA plans to investigate the hawala transactions too.
At the same time, the UAE attache who left Kerala is currently staying in Dubai. Hence, India has forwarded a letter via external affairs ministry to UAE government seeking permission to question the attache.
