Appointment of UAE consulate general’s gunman Jayaghosh has come under scanner following the controversial gold smuggling case. It is learned that there is a mystery behind his appointment. His contract was renewed on January 8, 2020.
DGP issued an order to extend his service for one more year. As this order faced criticism over violation of norms, the appointment orders of many officials including Jayaghosh disappeared from the official website of Kerala Police, reports Mathrubhumi.
Jayaghosh was appointed as gunman without any approval from the centre. Hence, NIA and customs have been probing his involvement in the gold smuggling case.
Meanwhile, Intelligence Bureau officials visited SR Jayaghosh who is currently undergoing treatment at a private hospital after suffering injuries from a suicide attempt. The officials visited him at the hospital on Sunday. Earlier, he told his relatives that the accused in the gold smuggling case would try to harm him. Following this, he attempted to commit suicide.
Suspecting mystery in his suicide attempt, the probe team initiated a probe on the gunman and his links. The probe team suspect that Jayaghosh was aware of the dealings at UAE consulate as he was the gunman of UAE consulate general.
It was found that Jayaghosh phoned Swapna and Sarith on the day when customs seized the gold at the airport. He tried to commit suicide when customs planned to interrogate him. It is reported that he was disturbed from the day customs foiled the bid to smuggle gold through Thiruvananthapuram airport.
Customs is probing on the transactions of his colleague Nagaraj as part of the case. Jayaghosh will be grilled by NIA and Customs once he gets discharged from the hospital. Police have arranged tight security for him at the hospital.
