In connection with the gold smuggling, the former principal secretary of the chief minister M. Sivsankar was questioned by customs for nine hours. The interrogation started at 5.30 pm on Tuesday and ended at around 2 am on Wednesday. After that, the officials from the customs office took Sivasankar to his house in Poojappura.
Indications are that crucial information was obtained during interrogation. Customs received information that he had pressured them in various ways to release the gold seized at the airport.
A customs DRI team reached Sivasankar’s house in Thiruvananthapuram to present him a notice summoning the former IT secretary to the department’s office in Kochi for questioning. It is learned that Sivasankar was at home and that the customs officials left the spot within 10 minutes.
There were allegations that Sivasankar had links with Swapna Suresh. The officials came to his house as part of the investigations. The investigation is to find out if the connection between Sivasankar and the accused was mere friendship or it had any links to gold smuggling.
