On a controversy erupted after mentioning Malappuram in Kerala elephant’s death row, MP Maneka Gandhi today said that she used the name quoting State Minister for Forests K Raju, the head of state forest department and officers of wildlife protection force. She informed this to the Youth league wing of Morayur panchayat.
Maneka Gandhi further explained that Malappuram is a place that has a beautiful history and what she actually meant was about the cruelty to animals.
Youth league had sent a letter to Maneka Gandhi expressing their protest in her statement that insulted Malappuram in connection with the elephant’s killing. They also invited her to Malappuram to know more about the district. To this, Maneka Gandhi responded.
“I didn’t mean to make this a religious issue. I also belong to a minority community. All should understand what is the actual issue,” she stated. Youth League’s panchayat unit secretary sent another letter to her requesting to correct her controversial post.
