The Election Commission has decided to grant postal voting facilities for three sections of voters in the upcoming Kerala Assembly election. COVID-19 patients, differently-abled and those above the age of 80 will be able to make use of the postal voting facility. The Chief Electoral Officer directed the Health Department in this regard.
Central Election Commission has issued a directive to chief election officer Teeka Ram Meena in this regard. COVID patients will be able to vote during the last hour of voting.
On Friday, Teeka Ram Meena held discussions with Health Department officials over conducting the elections in accordance with the COVID protocol. The Health Department has been directed to prepare an action plan within a week. Once the notification comes out, those seeking postal voting facility will have to submit an application to the returning officer within 5 days.
The Election Commission has also directed to appoint health nodal officers from state level to booth level.The Health Department should procure masks, sanitizers and PPE kits from the Medical Services Corporation. The Election Commission will pay the cost to the Health Department.
