Karnataka Higher Education Minister MC Sudhakar reaffirmed the commitment of the Congress government to deliver on the promises outlined in its manifesto. While addressing the issue of the National Education Policy (NEP), the Minister emphasized the need for a comprehensive analysis of the policy’s advantages and disadvantages before making any hasty decisions.
MC Sudhakar stated that the Congress had previously highlighted its intention to scrap the NEP. However, he stressed the importance of critically evaluating the policy’s impact to ensure the best interests of students are taken into consideration. He acknowledged that the opposition might interpret the situation differently but assured the public that the government would honor its commitments.
Following a meeting with educationists on Tuesday to discuss the NEP, the Minister announced that the Primary Education and Higher Education departments would jointly assess the feasibility of scrapping the policy. Further deliberations and information gathering will take place before presenting the findings to the Chief Minister.
MC Sudhakar acknowledged that the concerns surrounding the NEP extended beyond higher education. Therefore, the Primary Education Minister and himself would collaborate to address any doubts and uncertainties within their party. He emphasized the importance of following the necessary procedures to ensure effective implementation and reach the intended beneficiaries.
While reiterating the Congress manifesto’s stance on scrapping the NEP and introducing a State Education Policy, the Minister stressed that student welfare remains a priority in making any decision. Balancing the aspirations outlined in the manifesto with the academic well-being of students is crucial.
MC Sudhakar concluded by assuring the public that the government is dedicated to fulfilling its promises and will proceed with caution after thoroughly evaluating the NEP’s impact on the education system in Karnataka.
