At times when we stumble in life, we often depend upon the higher consciousness seeking a solution to get rid of those complexities. There are a number of temples people resort to, however, one among those miracle temples in South India is the Malla Durga Parameshwari temple in Kasaragod district.
There are a number of stories of miracles by the deity in this temple, however, my own personal experience is the greatest testimony of the power of this temple. Decades ago, like that in everyone’s life, a tough time came to this life too and amidst the complexities finally, there was no way left other than thinking of embracing death. Right in front of the idol, tears overflowed and begging for her pardon for abandoning life, I returned.
However, back home, there was something that was expected was waiting for me. An email from a university in which I had applied for a position a year ago. I had literally forgotten the process, however, the email contained the appointment letter as well as the visa to fly to the country where I was appointed. This was the turning point in this life, that even defines what I am now. However, what I know is that it was all a miracle – a miracle by Durga Devi at Malla Durga Parameshwari Temple.
Durga is a major deity in Hinduism who is worshipped as a principal aspect of the mother goddess. She is one of the most popular and widely revered among Indian divinities. She is associated with protection, strength, motherhood, destruction and wars. Her legend centres around combating evils and demonic forces that threaten peace, prosperity, and Dharma the power of good over evil. Durga is believed to unleash her divine wrath against the wicked for the liberation of the oppressed and entails destruction to empower creation.
Malla Sri Durga Parameshwari temple is one of the famous temples in the Kasaragod district of Kerala which attracts devotees from far and wide. People in the Dakshina Kannada and Udupi districts of Karnataka and many parts of Kerala visit Sri Malla (also called Mallam) Durga Parameshwari temple in Muliya village near Bovikana throughout the year to seek the blessings of Devi Durga Parameshwari who fulfils the various wishes of Her devotees. You can find thousands of devotees, especially women, visiting the temple on Tuesdays and Fridays that are considered auspicious for visit by them.
According to legends, Sri Durga Parameshwari is the supreme goddess who had killed the demon Daruka (elsewhere Daruka is referred to as Mahishasura) who was a terror to mankind. She had also killed two other notorious demons, Chanda and Munda, who intended to marry Her sensing her ravishing beauty and established peace in the region. Durga was created by Brahma, Vishnu, Shiva and lesser gods who gave their weapons and energy (Shakti) to Her to destroy the evil demon Mahishasura (buffalo-demon). Hence Durga is the supreme power in Hindu mythology.
The temple is situated in picturesque surroundings of hills and valleys and arecanut plantations. Devotees have to pass through a large gopuram and a wide hall (Vasudeva mantapam) before entering the inner courtyard from where devotees could have darshan of the Goddess. Facing the sanctum sanctorum are a Garudapeetha and a Dhwajasthamba. Malla Sri Durgaparameshwari temple is more than 400 years old and was established by Karad brahmins of Maharashtra. As we enter the inner courtyard, to our left, there is a Sri Satyanarayana shrine which is not found in any other Devi temples.
If you experience such a difficult situation in life, think about this temple. Perhaps just a visit or an offering in the temple would bring dramatic changes in your life.
