In a major lapse during obstetric surgery at Thiruvananthapuram Thycaud Women and Children’s Hospital, items, including cotton, were found in a woman’s abdomen who recently went through a cesarian session in the hospital. The woman who was admitted in the hospital again after the surgery underwent surgery again at the SAT hospital is still in critical condition, says reports.
Alfina Ali, 22, a native of Valiyathura, was admitted to the Thycaud Women’s and Children’s Hospital for her second childbirth. After the surgery, though the authorities discharged the woman, the pain did not subside. She was was rushed to a nearby hospital and underwent a scan to find items including cotton wool in her stomach.
When the woman rushed to SAT hospital authorities tried to remove the items through keyhole surgery. However, when it was not successful an emergency surgery was performed to take out the foreign bodies in her stomach. When the doctor of the Thycaud hospital informed about the mistake, the hospital authorities challenged her to come up with evidence, says Alfina. The superintendent of the Thycaud hospital said that no complaint was received in the incident.
